THE HUNGER
Not even a hint of a breeze
As the early January light
Floats across Liscannor Bay
Down on the beach
I take my dreams out for a walk
Pounding the sand
Until the body warms
And slows me down
See the heron's stillness
At the Kilmacreehy graveside
Where all stillness lives
In names on stones
Of those who brought their dreams
Out for a walk
Like me
I know the hunger
It lives inside
I feel that hunger
On the incoming tide
Not even a hint of a breeze
Where the sun falls beyond Clahane
We take the icy tumble
And laugh our heads off
At the madness of it all
The raging sea dares me
Take a chance
Dance with the raging beast
To whet the appetite
I know the hunger
It lives inside
I feel that hunger
On the incoming tide
Not even a hint of a breeze
As the light goes south
In the shadow of Barrtrá
I bend, and gather up
One last piece of plastic
Washed up on the shore
Our shore
I feel the hunger
It lives inside
I know that hunger
On the incoming tide
